The old girl lives on…

Over the last few months, i’ve been learning a lot.

  • A lot about Linux servers
  • Virtualization on different platforms (hyper-V/Proxmox)
  • DNS & linux firewalls
  • Containers(CT) / Proxmox

Seems I learnt enough to repair the configuration of the previous server – which is great because the following approach DID NOT work;

New server. Solid-state everything. Proxmox server install. Turnkey wordpress CT Template, configuration issues (like not ticking the option when creating the CT to allow it privildges to talk to other servers ….. -_-)
I will continue the move to the new server but with a different approach – this timew it’ll be a proper ubuntu server VM with MySQL / LEMP / LAMP / ETC. but a CT was not the answer. This will allow me to connect seemlessly to the new BMSvault vServer.
That is a truenas Container, running shares from BMSvault via nfs/SMB – moving forward with a VM instead of a CT will allow me to continue using the new server – I will now be able to do a migration of site content, making the whole process 90% easier.
